Spain is examined by the UN treaty body dealing with Racism
5/6/2016
Last 26th and 27th of April Spain was examined by the Committee for the Racial Discrimination (CERD), the specialized UN treaty body dealing with racism, xenophobia and related discrimination. The Spanish delegation, led by the Ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva, was made up by experts detached from all affected Ministries and other State bodies. In her presentation, the Ambassador informed the Committee on the progress made in Spain in the recent past, quoting a number of acts and programs adopted with a view to countering racism and xenophobia in Spain. After her presentation, the Committee members took the floor and posed many questions related, inter alia, to such subjects as the migration & asylum policy, or the integration programs in favor of the Roma people and the Afrodescendents. The interactive dialogue was a positive one, which will provide the Committee with sufficient information in order to address recommendations to the State Party.
