Semi-Autonomous Bodies of the OECD

In addition to the thematic directorates, there are also a number of institutions that are semi-autonomous bodies linked to the OECD that work in specific fields and whose member countries may differ from those of the OECD.

- International Energy Agency (IEA)

The IEA works to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for its 30 member countries and others. Its mission focuses on four main areas: energy security, economic development, environmental awareness and global engagement.

- Centre for Education Research and Innovation (CERI)

The Centre for Education Research and Innovation (CERI) conducts extensive research covering learning at all ages. It goes beyond the formal education system, although it focuses especially on the future of schools and universities. Special emphasis is placed on the accumulation of statistical evidence on the value of their research work.

- Development Centre (DEV)

The Development Centre is essential in the OECD and the international community. It is a forum in which countries share their experiences in economic and social development policies. The Centre brings expert analysis to the development policy debate. The aim is to assist leaders in decision-making to find policy solutions to stimulate growth and improve living conditions in developing and emerging economies.
The main research topics are development in transition, migration and development, and gender, with regional approaches for Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. It produces the annual report on Perspectives on Global Development.

- Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC)

The Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC) is an independent international platform. Its Secretariat is based at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Its mission is to promote regional policies that improve the economic and social well-being of the people of the Sahel and West Africa.
Its objectives are: improving regional governance of food and nutrition security; improving the understanding of the constant transformations in the region and their policy implications through regional, territorial and prospective analyses.

- International Transport Forum (ITF)

The OECD International Transport Forum is an intergovernmental organization with 59 member countries. It acts as a think tank for transport policy and organises the Annual Summit. The ITF is the only global body covering all means of transport and is administratively integrated into the OECD, although politically autonomous.
The ITF works for transport policies that improve people's lives. Its mission is to promote a deeper understanding of the role of transport in economic growth, environmental sustainability and social inclusion, and to raise the public profile of transport policy.
