Ambassador

The Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Spain to the OECD, Mr. Manuel María Escudero Zamora.

We are living complex times at a crossroads where we must resort to the Chinese concept of crisis, which also entails a clear dimension of opportunity. I embrace the duties that must be developed at the OECD with a certain sense of urgency. We must work for Spain to have a well-deserved position as one of the top member states in initiative, leadership and visibility.

In this era when we perceive temptations to undermine multilateralism, we must reaffirm it as the only way forward for global progress. At a time when multilateral organisations such as the OECD may be subject to unnecessary polarisations, we are determined to set an example in consolidating consensus as the bedrock of this organisation. And consensus always starts with dialogue and listening carefully to be able to understand the views of the others.

Multilateralism is not exactly built by only talking about it, but by making the work carried out in a multilateral organisation such as the OECD relevant for the mission it was conceived, that being effectively contributing to the economic cooperation and development at a global level.

This is the mandate and mission that we have undertaken in this Permanent Delegation, with an excellent team and a clear vision and commitment to serve Spain.
