  •  Manuel Muñiz held meetings with the President of the Regional Government of Valencia, Ximo Puig, the business confederation CEV and Members of the Regional Parliament
  • The State secretary declared that the main lines of foreign affairs with a view to Spain’s economic recovery prioritise “guaranteeing that this crisis does not exacerbate the social gap, as happened in the previous crisis”

The State Secretary for Global Spain, Manuel Muñiz, ended his official visit this morning to the Region of Valencia, the aim of which has been to step up the region’s participation in strategically shaping Spain’s external action. Over these two days, Manuel Muñiz has held meetings with political, business and media representatives in the region.

The first meeting was held yesterday with the President of the Regional Government of Valencia, Ximo Puig, at the Regional Government Palace. During the meeting, Manuel Muñiz and Ximo Puig addressed the agenda of Spanish overseas action and the way of incorporating the perspectives of the different regional governments. They both prioritised questions of economic diplomacy – one of the pillars of Global Spain – in its numerous dimensions: the European Recovery and Resilience Fund, international mobility, tourism, economic trips and technological and economic hubs, of which “there are several very important ones in Valencia”, said Manuel Muñiz. According to the State secretary, the meeting was “very productive because it opened up perspectives on the lines of work that we are going to develop”.

A strategic time to move forward together

Manuel Muñiz met with the Business Confederation of the Region of Valencia (CEV), in order to ascertain the concerns of the business sector of Valencia and address this through economic diplomacy. This meeting was attended by both the President of the CEV and the Vice-President of the CEOE, Salvador Navarro, as well as the Government Delegate in the Region of Valencia, Gloria Calero. Manuel Muñiz underlined at the meeting that “Spain is undergoing a strategic time of transformation towards recovery, in which the public authorities and companies must move forward together and unite their efforts”.

On the same day, the State secretary gave a lecture entitled Spain in the post-Covid-19 international stage at the Manuel Broseta Meeting Club. After it was presented by the President of the Club, Amparo Maties, Manuel Muñiz summarised the main foreign affairs lines of action with a view to Spain’s economic recovery, the fundamental priority of which is “to guarantee that this crisis does not exacerbate the social gap as it did in the previous crisis”, and to ensure that “no-one is left behind”. Europe’s strategic and technological autonomy, the governance of global health, the restitution of mobility and economic diplomacy that works to ensure sound economic growth were some of the central points of the lecture, which was followed by a Q&A session from the members of the Broseta Club in attendance and from the general public through YouTube.

The agenda of Manuel Muñiz in the Region of Valencia ended this morning with a talk and debate in the Regional Parliament of Valencia with regional MPs from the European Affairs Committee, the Economic Affairs Committee and the spokespersons of the different parliamentary groups. Accompanied by the Speaker of the Regional Parliament of Valencia, Enric Morera, and the Government Delegate to Valencia, Gloria Calero, he addressed the work to enhance the country’s reputation, economic diplomacy initiatives and the general lines of the Overseas Action Strategy.
