PRESS RELEASE 100
AECID and Catalan Development Cooperation Agency sign action protocol for young people in Tunisia
29/06/2020

The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Spanish acronym: AECID) and the Catalan Development Cooperation Agency (Spanish acronym: ACCD) have today signed a General Action Protocol to collaborate in Tunisia on the EY4Youth Project in the field of culture and sport.

This is the largest European Union delegated cooperation agreement in this North African country, for a sum of 15 million euros, which will be headed up by AECID and the British Council, and which the Catalan Cooperation Agency has also signed up to due to its experience in developing public policies in the field of sport.

The signing was presided over by the State Secretary for International Cooperation, Ángeles Moreno Bau, and the Director of the Catalan Development Cooperation Agency, Carme Gual.

The EU4Youth Project seeks the inclusion of the most vulnerable young people through cultural and sporting initiatives, in their consideration as development factors.

Within the sustainability policies of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, AECID and ACCD promote formulas to listen to and make Tunisian youths heard by involving them in local public activities that contribute to generating leadership.

AECID has a long track-record in supporting institutional policies of partner countries of Spanish cooperation, designed to forge social cohesion, intergenerational dialogue, peaceful culture, respect for identity and job creation.

Tunisia is now on the list of priority countries for Catalan cooperation for the first time, which has already worked with several towns in this country on training, consultative advice on young people and the exchange of experiences between Tunisian and Catalan cities.

The project is still at an embryonic stage and the signing of this General Action Protocol establishes the will of both parties to work together and make progress through specific legal documents when the project is defined.
