Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation recommends restricting travel abroad
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation calls for responsibility from citizens in avoiding trips abroad that are not urgent or essential and recommends Spanish travellers to reconsider all their travel plans.

The need to limit travel can be clearly seen considering that at this time a total of 73 countries have imposed some type of restriction or additional control on trips by citizens from Spain*.

35 countries have established some type of ban on the entry of people from Spain or have suspended air and/or maritime communications: Saudi Arabia, Algeria (flights suspended from 16 March), Argentina, Austria (flights suspended from 16 March), Cyprus, El Salvador, Slovakia, the United States (affects 26 European countries), the Philippines, Guatemala (on all European countries), Equatorial Guinea, Honduras, India, Iraq, Marshall Islands, Israel (on all non-residents), Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Kuwait (ban on all non-nationals), Malta, Morocco (land border open), Montenegro, Oman (as from 15 March), Peru (suspension of flights from 16 March), Qatar, the Czech Republic, Singapore, Sudan, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey (suspension of flights from 14 March), Ukraine (suspension on flights from 15 March) and Venezuela.

Furthermore, a total of 30 countries impose forms of quarantine on people arriving from Spain: Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Burundi, Chile, China, Cyprus, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Dominica, Estonia, Georgia, Guinea Conakry, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Laos, Liberia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Niger, Norway, Ruanda, Russia (Moscow), Samoa, Thailand, Tunisia and Uganda.

Finally, another eight countries demand some kind of measures in the event of travelling there: Germany, Cameroon, Egypt, Italy, Ireland, Malaysia, Nepal and South Korea.

At any event, since the WHO has declared a global pandemic, it should be taken into account that if anyone is suspected of having been exposed or shows symptoms, then it cannot be ruled out that they may be placed in quarantine in any country in the world.

As regards Spanish citizens that are overseas, they are reminded of the importance of precisely following the travel recommendations issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, as well as the general indications offered by the Ministry of Health. All of Spain’s embassies and consulates-general aboard remain open and available 24 hours a day through the emergency consular hotline and social media channels to attend to Spanish citizens in emergency situations.

In recent days, the crisis unit of the Directorate-General of Spaniards Abroad and of Consular Affairs has been strengthened and received five times more staff to guarantee continued attention by phone for consular emergencies.
