The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Fernando Valenzuela, Participates in the Inauguration of the 19th International Economic Forum on Africa
29/11/2019

The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Fernando Valenzuela, participated today in the inauguration of the 19th edition of the International Economic Forum on Africa, in Casa Árabe. This event, titled "Africa's Integration: Investing in our common future", has been organised in Spain for the first time jointly by the OECD Development Centre, the African Union and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation.

The International Economic Forum on Africa, organised annually by the OECD to discuss the main transformations of the continent, focuses on issues related to the productive capacities of the African private sector and investment priorities in the continent.

In his speech, the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs highlighted the priority nature of Africa for our foreign policy, and recalled Spain's renewed commitment to the continent included in the 3rd Africa Plan, which the Government approved last March.

Likewise, Valenzuela referred to the positive transformations occurred in recent years in the continent, highlighting the recent entry into force of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, as well as the challenges faced, recalling the special impact of global challenges on Africa, such as climate emergency. "Given the opportunities that are emerging for our companies, but also for the prosperity and improvement of the living conditions of Africans, our Africa Plan particularly focused on the action of Spain to create opportunities that are mutually beneficial."
