PRESS RELEASE 156
Spain Assisted 86 Spaniards in Bolivia in an Emergency Situation
20/11/2019

The Spanish Embassy in Bolivia assisted 86 people who were in an emergency situation since 20 October, when the elections were held in the country. From that moment on, the riots that have caused nearly thirty fatalities and hundreds of wounded began.

During this period, there have not been fatalities deaths or wounded among members of the Spanish colony consisting of 20,000 Spaniards residing in the consular demarcations of La Paz and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and who have not suffered serious incidents during the riots that still persist in different areas of the country.

The consular services of the Embassy managed more than 700 telephone calls during this last month on consular issues, half a thousand emails were sent and more than 200 messages were written through social media.

During all this time, the two Spanish consulates in Bolivia were available both through their offices and through the support system by means of the consular emergency telephone number, emails and social media.

The crisis unit of the Embassy, which was activated on 28 October, meets every day to closely monitor the situation of Spanish residents in Bolivia.

In addition, the Spanish Embassy in Bolivia still maintains the express recommendation not to travel to Bolivia established on 10 November.
