PRESS RELEASE 150
The SEAEX Participates in the 24th Spain-USA Forum in San Antonio, Texas
02/11/2019

The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs (SEAEX), Fernando Valenzuela, took part yesterday in the opening meeting of the 24th Spain - USA Forum held on 1 and 2 November in the city of San Antonio, Texas.

In its intervention, the State Secretary highlighted the strength of bilateral relations, the great potential and the remarkable growth of the presence of Spanish companies throughout the US territory and, in particular, in the State of Texas.  In this regard, he recalled that more than 30,000 Spanish companies are doing business with the US, and contribute to create more than 100,000 jobs.  Therefore, after annual growth of more than 10%, Spain is the ninth country in accumulated investment within the US market, which is also the first destination of our investments.

On the other hand, State Secretary Valenzuela referred to the challenges the bilateral relation is facing, specifically the tariffs recently established by the US strongly affecting sectors of the Spanish economy.

The SEAEX also underlined the work that, for more than twenty years, both the Spain-United States Council Foundation and its counterpart, the “United States - Spain Council” have done for more than twenty years. The Spain - United States Forum takes place under the co-chairs of Juan Lladó, on behalf of the Spain-USA Council Foundation, and Joaquín Castro, Congressman for Texas, on behalf of the United States-Spain Council, his American counterpart. This is the first forum which Congressman Castro accepted to co-chair, replacing Senator Tim Kaine.

Finally, the SEAEX recalled that next year Spain will host the twenty-fifth edition of the Forum, so that this event will have a special relevance.

The Spain - United States Forum is the annual meeting that, on this occasion, addresses the following issues in three work sessions: the role of the entertainment industry as a cultural bridge between Spain and the United States; the challenges of truthful information in the face of technological innovation; and the future of energy sources in the global process of transition towards the de-carbonisation of the economy and the essential role of renewable energies. For this purpose, experts from the institutional and business field of both countries participated therein.
