PRESS RELEASE 100
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation participates in the Summit of the two Shores
24/06/2019

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Josep Borrell, took part in the ministerial meeting of the "Two Shores Summit", held in the French city of Marseille, between 23 and 24 June 2019.

The meeting was attended by the Western Mediterranean foreign affairs ministers from the 5+5 Dialogue, representatives of Germany, the EU, the Union for the Mediterranean, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank and the Anna Lindh Foundation, as well as ten representatives of civil society from each of ten countries belonging to the so-called "Group of One Hundred".

The meeting is the culmination of a participatory process with civil society from both sides of the Mediterranean in which the "Group of 100" has presented to government representatives a manifesto setting out proposals in the fields of youth, energy transition, sustainable economy, culture and environment formulated. All this through a series of five thematic preparatory fora and a plenary meeting in Tunis. The process has also been nurtured by the holding in Barcelona of a regional dialogue organised by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), with the participation of INJUVE last May.

Minister Josep Borrell focused his speech on the need to offer Mediterranean youth a quality public education adapted to the need for a working environment in which innovation and organised mobility will prevail.
The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, closed the meeting.

Minister Josep Borrell held a bilateral meeting with his Algerian counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum, on the margins of the meeting.
