PRESS RELEASE 051
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation and the Chairman of Correos present the Commemorative Stamp of the Spanish Diplomatic Career
11/03/2019

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, Josep Borrell, and the Chairman of Correos (national postal service of Spain), Juan Manuel Serrano, presented today, at the Palace of Santa Cruz, the commemorative stamp of the Diplomatic Career that Correos issued within a series dedicated to the Corps of the General State Administration.

In his speech, the Minister recalled that the stamp is part of the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the publication of the Royal Decree that, in 1929, arranged the current unified Diplomatic Career after the merger of the Diplomatic and Consular Careers. This ephemeris laid the foundations of a modern, multifunctional administration body adapted to the changing world of today.

Josep Borrell highlighted that the Diplomatic Career currently has more than 900 public officers, with the aim of increasing the presence of women at all levels.

Minister Borrell also pointed out that the stamp provides an image of modernity of the Career while showing its necessary roots in tradition. It shows the emblem and motto of the Diplomatic Career: Pro Patria legatione fungimur, tamquam Patria exhortante per nos (We are Ambassadors of the Homeland in such a way that the Homeland speaks to you through us).

The stamp wants to show the Diplomatic Career from a current and future point of view, highlighting its human capital: women and men at the service of the interests of Spain within a specialised State Body.

The event finished with the postmark being placed by Minister Borrell, the Chairman of Correos, the under-secretary and the technical general secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation.
