The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, Josep Borrell, has travelled to the Principality of Andorra to hold a series of meetings with authorities and the Andorran civil society. Josep Borrell met with the Cap de Govern of Andorra, Antoni Martí, the Síndic General, Vicenç Mateu, the Subsíndica General, Mónica Bonell and with his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, María Ubach.
During his meetings, Minister Borrell was able to confirm the excellent state of relations, which this year celebrate the twenty fifth anniversary of the signing and entry into force of the Treaty on Good Neighbour Relations, Friendship and Cooperation. Both Minister Borrell and his Andorran colleagues coincided in emphasising the level of fluid, intense and positive relations in all fields, based on solid common values.
Furthermore, they highlighted the cooperation between both countries which continue to deepen and grow with new initiatives and fields of joint action.
Minister Borrell made the most of the opportunity to reiterate the solid cooperation maintained within the international framework, particularly in the field of the EU, with Spain’s support of the development of relations between Andorra and the European Union. Josep Borrell transmitted Spain’s strong backing of the conclusion of the Partnership Agreement between Andorra and the EU as a very beneficial instrument for the integration of the Andorran economy in the European single market which will further boost all types of relationships between the Principality and Spain.
Likewise, Minister Borrell congratulated the Andorran authorities for the upcoming organisation of the 2020 Ibero-American Summit. He also reiterated Spain’s utmost willingness to collaborate with the team from the Andorran Ministry of Foreign Affairs that is responsible for preparing said summit.
During his trip the minister was able to visit the “María Moliner” Spanish School, a benchmark for educational quality in the country and for the creation of links between both societies through culture and teaching.
Minister Borrell ended his visit with a meeting with Monsignor Joan-Enric Vives, ex officio Co-Prince of Andorra, in the Episcopal Palace of La Seu d'Urgell. They were both able to discuss the main issues that affect the excellent relations between Spain and Andorra.
