    The Government of Spain strongly condemns today’s terrorist attack in a market in the city of Baghdad, with a provisional death toll of 20 people, along with dozens of others injured.

    The Government of Spain welcomes the appointment by the United Nations Secretary-General of the new Special Envoy and Head of the United Nations Mission on Libya, Jan Kubis, who will take on his functions in February.

    Spain condemns the terrorist attack that killed two Supreme Court judges on Sunday in Kabul. The Government of Spain expresses its recognition of their work in promoting the administration of justice and rule of law in Afghanistan.

    The Government of Spain welcomes the decision taken by President Mahmud Abbas to call parliamentary and presidential elections, as well as elections to the Palestinian National Council, to be held on 22 May, 31 July and 31 August, respectively.

    Spain welcomes with satisfaction the resumption of exploratory talks between Turkey and Greece to be held on 25 January. Spain actively supports the efforts to promote dialogue in the Eastern Mediterranean and trusts that these talks will allow progress to be made in alleviating tensions and enhancing stability in the region, and will contribute to generating shared prosperity in the region, all in line with the Conclusions from the European Council held in December 2020.

    The Government of Spain condemns that attacks carried out on 2 January in the villages of Tchoma Bangou and Zaroumadareye in Niger, in which a great many people were killed.

    The Government of Spain strongly condemns yesterday’s attack on the civil airport of Aden, which led to at least 20 deaths and numerous injuries. The attack coincides with the arrival of the new Yemeni Government that was sworn in only a few days earlier. This coalition government includes members of the Southern Transitional Council for the first time, as contemplated in the Riyadh agreements of November 2019.
