On Sunday yesterday, the OAS audit published its preliminary findings regarding the elections of 20th October where, given the identified irregularities, it recommended holding new elections under the supervision of new electoral authorities. Subsequently, President Morales announced the call for these new elections and the appointment of new members to the Tribunal Supremo Electoral (court of elections). Spain laments the fact that the process initiated yesterday for a new election has been distorted by the actions of the military and the Police demanding the resignation of Evo Morales from the Presidency, which he later submitted. This intervention calls to mind past moments of Latin American history

The Government of Spain follows with concern the evolution of the political situation in Guinea Bissau, particularly the attempts to derail the current electoral process through the dismissal of Prime Minister Aristides Gomes. The presidential decree of dismissal is against the Constitution of Guinea Bissau and against the framework of agreement created by the Final Communiqué adopted at the Summit of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS of 29 June, which entrusted all government functions to the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Aristides Gomes
