Government calls for new settlements in West Bank to be halted

The Government of Spain calls on the Israeli authorities to reverse the decisions announced regarding 800 new homes in various settlements in the West Bank (Itamar, Beit El, Shavei Shomron, Oranit and Givat Ze'ev, Tal Menashe and Nofei Nehemia, among others).

Settlements in the territories occupied by Israel since 1967 constitute a violation of international law and endanger the viability of the two-State solution to achieve fair and lasting peace in the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The decision announced prejudices the generation of trust between the two sides, which is necessary to resume peace talks.
