The abduction took place on Friday, 11 December, when a group of armed individuals with assault rifles attacked the Government Science secondary school in Kankara, which has more than 800 pupils. According to the latest official estimates, around half of the pupils are still missing. The leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, has said it was behind the attack in an audio message.
The Government of Spain hopes that the pupils abducted will be released immediately and expresses its solidarity with the families. Spain reiterates its support for the Nigerian authorities in the fight against terrorism and trusts that the abductors will be detained and brought to justice as soon as possible.
