OFFICIAL STATEMENT 193
Spain-Australia Youth Mobility Agreement Quota increase

The Governments of Spain and Australia have agreed upon a reciprocal increase of the visa quota issued within the framework of the Youth Mobility Programme between both countries

28/12/2018

Said quota increase shall become effective today, 28 December 2018.

The Spain-Australia Youth Mobility Programme allows young citizens from both countries to enjoy vacation periods, in Australia and Spain, respectively, which include work experiences for increasing their life experiences, learn or improve the relevant languages and gain some work experience.

The quota amounted so far to 1,500 visas, and will now increase up to 3,400.

Therefore, as of today, 28 December, Australia will open a new period for issuance of subclass 462 visas (“Work and Holiday Visa”) for Spanish young citizens who wish to benefit from said Programme.

This new period for issuance of visas shall go until 30 June 2019 or until the new 1,900 visas offered for the 2018-2019 academic year have been granted (the 1,500 visas initially offered for said year have been already granted).

On 1 July 2019, a new quota of 3,400 visas for the academic year 2019-2020 shall be open.

The Programme is available for Spanish young citizens aged 18 to 30, who meet the requirements set forth in clause 2 of the Accord, the full text of which may be accessed in the following link:

Spanish young citizens who wish to apply for an Australian visa must have previously obtained a Letter of Support issued by the Ministry of Employment, Migration and Social Security of Spain.

They may request it –preferably- through the electronic office of the said Ministry:
