Terrorist attacks in Damascus

Spain strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in Damascus on Saturday, 11 March on the cemetery in the old town and on the courts of justice and a restaurant in the neighbourhood of Rabeuh on Wednesday, 15 March, killing close to 100 people and leaving many others injured

The government expresses its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims and wishes those injured a speedy and full recovery.

The Government of Spain reaffirms the need to reach a negotiated solution to the conflict in Syria as soon as possible through a political transition under the mediation of the United Nations in line with the provisions of the 2012 Geneva Communiqué and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015), as the only way to reach a lasting peace, bring an end to the suffering of the people and effectively fight terrorism.
