Royal Decree 1266/2018, of 8 October, created the new State Secretariat for España Global, a higher body responsible for adopting measures to improve Spain’s image overseas. It is also tasked with the planning, promotion, coordination and monitoring of Spanish action abroad, both public and private, in the economic, cultural, social, scientific and technological fields, aimed at improving the image of Spain overseas. Ms. Irene Lozano was appointed State Secretary for España Global by virtue of Royal Decree 1277/2018, of 11 October.
In an increasingly global world, image and reputation are assets that serve to ensure better positioning of a country on the national and international level. A good national image serves to attract higher levels of productive investment, facilitate the international growth of companies and boost exports of goods and services. It can also attract greater numbers of researchers, academics and tourists and help Spain maintain greater presence in different international decision-making forums.
España Global is an inclusive and integrative state policy initiative, with a permanent long-term vocation. Its objective is to promote an image of Spain overseas that is in line with reality, as one of the most important economic and political powers in the world. Spain is one of the 19 full democracies in the world and its work in international mediation and defence of Human Rights is recognised by other countries. It is a solid and supportive State; rich and diverse, flexible and open to change. The policy highlights Spain’s innumerable strengths in the fields of culture, heritage, language, science, technology, tourism, fashion, gastronomy, its solidarity and its key role in global governance.
For this, España Global relies on all of the Administrations, our embassies, general consulates and sectoral trade offices overseas, on companies, the media and on Spaniards themselves both home and abroad, who work every day to build a better country for all.
