The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), based in Paris
G-20 and OECD

Created in 1999, the Group of 20 (G-20), is made up of the countries in the G-8 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK, and USA), plus the European Union, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea and Turkey.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation  and Development (OECD), based in Paris, was born on 30 September 1961, out of the structure of the Organization for European Economic Cooperation, founded in 1948 with the aim of managing the Marshall Plan funds donated by the USA for rebuilding Europe after World War II.
  • Presence of Spain in the G20 and in the OECD
Spain is not a member of G20, although it has participated in its seven extraordinary summits of the Group and in several ordinary meetings, and is therefore considered a permanent guest member.  Spain is a founding member of the OECD, and has a Permanent Delegation at the Organization's headquarters in Paris.
  • Indicators
G20 does not produce its own statistics or indicators, using for its reports the data published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the  World Bank (WB), the Organization for Cooperation and Economic development (OECD) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
  • Global Economic Governance
G20 was thrust into the spotlight by the international financial crisis that exploded in 2007-2008, as a forum for policy debate on governance of the global economy. Its main challenge is to reach a basic consensus among the developed and emerging countries, although its mandates are non-binding, so that compliance with its recommendations depends on the commitment of its member countries. Its main goal is to achieve, by means of consensus, formulas to overcome the crisis, defend jobs, and ensure the social and environmental sustainability of a new model of balanced, sustainable global development .
