She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Sciences from the Autónoma University of Barcelona (graduating in 1982). She also attained a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Columbia University in New York (qualifying in 1986), after being granted a Fulbright Scholarship from La Caixa.
In her professional career, she was the High Commissioner of the Government of Spain for the 2030 Agenda (July 2018-January 2020), she is a senior European Union official on a leave of absence, she was Head of the Equal Opportunities Office of the Council of the European Union in Brussels (September 2017-July 2018), Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Special Advisor to the Secretary-General (April 2017-June 2017), Head of Department for Public Information, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Communications and Public Information (February 2015-April 2017), Head of Public Relations and Spokesperson for the Council of the European Union (July 2010-December 2014), Spokesperson for the Government of Spain during the Rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January 2010-June 2010), Head of Division, Spokesperson and Director of Communications to the High Representative of the European Union, Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). Head of public diplomacy for foreign policy (October 1999-November 1999) and Communications Advisor and Spokesperson for the NATO Secretary-General, Javier Solana (May 1996-October 1999).
She also worked as the European correspondent for the Spanish News Agency EFE in Brussels (October 1992-April 1996), as correspondent for the Spanish News Agency EFE in Moscow (April 1990-September 1992), as editor of the Society and International Section of "El Periódico de Cataluña" (October 1986-April 1990), as correspondent to the United States. She also worked as a freelance journalist for AVUI, Cataluña Radio, the weekly EL MON and TVE (1984-September 1986), as a news reporter for TVE Cataluña (1983-August 1984) and as a political reporter for "EL NOTICIERO UNIVERSAL" (Barcelona) (1982-February 1983).
