Working Holiday Scheme

 
VERY IMPORTANT
 
VISAS FOR SPAIN MUST BE APPLIED FOR AND GRANTED BEFORE LEAVING NEW ZEALAND.
 
 
There are 200 places available annually under this scheme for young citizens of New Zealand to stay up to 12 months in Spain.
 
 
To be eligible you must:
 
  • be a citizen of New Zealand, be resident in New Zealand and have a New Zealand passport that is valid for at least three months after your planned departure from Spain.
  • be at least 18 and no more than 30 years old, both inclusive, at the time of application
  • be coming to Spain primarly for vacation purposes, with work being a secondary intention for your visit
  • not be accompanied by any dependants.
  • hold a return ticket or have sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket.
  • possess sufficient funds to support yourself during the period of your stay in Spain.
  • acquire, so that you have it before travelling to Spain, medical and hospitalisation insurance, valid for the whole of your intended stay in Spain.
  • meet Spanish health and police clearance requirements.
  • pay the prescribed visa application fee
  • not have had a visa approved under our working holiday scheme in the past.
In order to apply for this type of visa you need to provide the following:
 
 
1.     ONE visa application form duly completed, signed and dated; which must be obtained from this Embassy. Please, do not forget to include your e-mail address on the visa application form, as this Embassy will communicate via e-mail only.
 
2.     One passport size colour photograph on a light coloured background. This must be glued (not stapled) to the visa application form on the top right hand corner. Photographs must be printed on quality photographic paper.
 
3.     Passport with a validity of at least 3 months subsequent to the foreseen date of departure from Spain. It must have at least two blank pages and have been issued within 10 years prior to the submission of the visa application.
 
4.     Return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket.
5.     Evidence of having enough funds (a minimum of 532.51 EUROS per month or equivalent in foreign currency).  
 
6.     In the event that a parent or guardian is committed to covering the applicant’s costs, the parent or guardian must provide a statutory declaration signed before a Notary Public and include a legalized copy of their passport, a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate and current bank statements (stamped by the bank).
 
7.     Comprehensive Travel Insurance to cover medical and hospital charges, including associated repatriation costs – valid for one year.  
 
8.     A police clearance certificate from New Zealand and any other country where the applicant has lived for the last 5 years (this/these document(s) must be less than 6 months old). In New Zealand, this must be obtained from the Ministry of Justice (http://www.justice.govt.nz/). Please note that you must present a Police Clearance Certificate from New Zealand, even if you have not lived here in the last five years. 
 
9.     Medical Certificate from your Doctor, less than 3 months old, with the following wording:
 
·         “This medical certificate states that Mr/Ms. ……… does not suffer from any of the diseases that can have serious implications for public health, pursuant to the provisions of the International Health Regulations 2005”.
 
10.  N.I.E (foreigner’s identification number). Applicants need to apply for a NIE through this Embassy when submitting the visa application. In order to apply for the NIE applicants must provide the following:
 
a)     Application form duly completed, signed and dated, which must be obtained from this Embassy. You must clearly state in the field “Motivos” (point 4.2 of the NIE application form) the following: “ACUERDO DE MOVILIDAD CON NUEVA ZELANDA”.  
 
b)    Form 790 duly completed, signed and dated, which must be obtained from this Embassy.
 
11.  A non refundable application fee – visa and NIE – (for updated information about fees, please call the Embassy before lodging your application). Payment is accepted by bank cheque, payable to “Embassy of Spain” or personally by cash. Without this payment the application may not be processed. The Embassy cannot accept personal cheques or credit cards for payment.
 
12.  A prepaid envelope or courier bag.
 
 
Applicants must contact the Embassy by email in order to request the necessary forms.
 
NOTE: INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE RETURNED TO APPLICANTS.
 
Please note that you must enter Spain within 90 days of the visa issue date
 
 
THE ENDORSED VISA IS VALID FOR ONE YEAR AND ALLOWS YOU TO WORK AND STUDY IN SPAIN.
 
Applicants may opt, if they wish, to apply for a foreigner’s ID card at the local Police Station after arriving in Spain. However, this is not compulsory.   
 
 

Citizens of New Zealand who travel to Spain under this scheme must comply with the laws and regulations of Spain and must not engage in employment that is contrary to the purpose of the Scheme.

 

This means that:

·         You must not take up permanent employment

·         You must not work for a period exceeding six months.

·         You must not work for the same employer for more than three months.

 
 
 
ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE LODGED AND COLLECTED IN PERSON AT THIS EMBASSY OR AT ONE OF OUR HONORARY CONSULAR OFFICES.
 
PROCESSING TAKES APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS. APPLICANTS ARE ADVISED NOT TO CONTACT THE EMBASSY TO FIND OUT ABOUT THEIR VISA STATUS. THE EMBASSY WILL COMMUNICATE VIA EMAIL ONCE THE VISA IS GRANTED.
 
THE EMBASSY CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DOCUMENTATION OR PASSPORT LOST DURING DELIVERY.
 
 
The Embassy reserves the right to request personal attendance and further documents or information deemed necessary for processing the application, at any time, and assumes no responsibility for applications submitted too close to the planned day of departure.
