President Sánchez explained to President Biden that Spain is continuing to work closely with its partners and allies in the evacuation of vulnerable Afghans. He also informed President Biden of the mechanism that Spain has put into place to act as a hub for the EU Exterior Action Service, by which Afghan citizens that collaborated with the European Union and other personnel that has served European institutions will be arriving in Spain.

During the conversation, which lasted about 25 minutes, Presidents Sánchez and Biden reaffirmed their willingness to continue their close collaboration in order to facilitate the evacuation operations from Afghanistan. Specifically, President Sánchez and President Biden agreed to use the military bases in Rota and Morón in the south of Spain to temporarily host Afghans collaborators of the U.S. in transit to other destinations.

A show of the excellent collaboration between the two countries, at the request of the United States, a Spanish plane arrived at Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base in Madrid today, transporting 64 evacuees that collaborated with the U.S.
