Embassy Celebrates World Book Day
4/23/2016

On Saturday, April 23 the Embassy celebrated World Book Day with various activities including a special reading of Don Quixote, children’s activities, and a book fair in Dupont Circle.

This year’s Word Book Day coincided with the 400 anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, one of Spain’s most prolific writers. Embassy staff and members of the public took turns reading excerpts from Cervantes’ most famous work, Don Quixote. Meanwhile, children enjoyed creating Cervantes-themed crafts and getting their picture taken with the book’s most famous characters.

The Embassy also participated in a book fair held in Dupont Circle. Visitors who bought a book were given a red rose, as is customary in Spain. Several local book stores and organizations participated, including the Casal Català de Washington. The Embassy shared information about learning Spanish, cultural events, and educational programs.
