Daniel F. Runde, the Director of the Project on Prosperity and Development of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), was bestowed with The Officer’s Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica in a ceremony hosted by Ambassador Pedro Morenés.

In his remarks, Ambassador Morenés highlighted that the Officer’s Cross is an honor awarded to those who "have made an extraordinary contribution to the relationship of friendship and cooperation between Spain and the rest of the international community."

The Ambassador underlined that Mr. Runde has proven this by bringing clarity and information to the public debate about Spain in the U.S., and "has stressed the vital role that the rule of law and strong institutions play in sustaining democracies against all their enemies throughout the world", among other achievements.

Ambassador Morenés bestowed this high honor in the name of His Majesty King Felipe VI. In receiving the award, Mr. Runde noted, "The world has become richer, freer and safer because of the choices made by Spain and the burdens it has helped bear." He added, “Now more than ever, we need a strong, united, internationally active Spain to help resolve the big but manageable challenges the world has to confront.”
