Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya Speaks With U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

​The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation spoke on the phone with the U.S. Secretary of State as part of the regular contact both maintain.

​One of the topics discussed was the International Donors Conference, in solidarity with Venezuelan migrants and refugees, to be held by the European Union and Spain on May 26, with the support of the United Nations Refguee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Minister González Laya highlighted the importance of the event and thanked Secretary Pompeo for the United States’ involvement and participation in the event.

Minister González Laya and Secretary Pomeo also discussed the peace process in the Middle East; in this context, the Minister expressed that she is willing to continue working with partners to achieve a just and lasting solution to the Isreali-Palestinean conflict. They also exchanged their points of view on the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the measures being carried out to try to stop it from spreading, and the attempt to begin a new phase of deescalation that allows for an economic rebound to be set in motion. In this phase, the Spanish government considers international rapport and cooperation between all States to be essential.
