About us
The Embassy of Spain is located in Washington, D.C. (2375 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. 20037) and our Consulates throughout the United States are in Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico.

   
Our Embassy
The Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. represents the Spanish Government and fosters the close relations between the two countries. The growth of the institutional networking promotes mutual understanding and cooperation between our two countries.

  
The Ambassador
The Ambassador of Spain in the United States represents the Spanish government and its institutions in the US. He follows closely the events and opinion in the US and assures the protection of Spanish interests.
Mr. Santiago Cabanas is the Spanish Ambassador to the U.S.

 
Our Consulates
The Spanish government has consulates across the United States. They provide a number of legal-administrative services with effect in Spain, to Spanish citizens and also to foreigners with some connection to Spain (this includes visa services). Our consular offices are in Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
 

 
 
A little bit of History & Location
 
Spain and the United States established diplomatic relations in 1785, two years after American independence. In 1795 they signed their first treaty, the Treaty of Friendship, Limits, and Navigation. The first Ambassador was Diego María de Gardoqui y Arriquibar.
 
The Embassy is located at 2375 Pennsylvania Avenue, near Washington Circle. The Ambassador's Residence on Foxhall Road was inaugurated in January 2004 and is the work of Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, winner of the Prizker of Architecture in 1995. The Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain, located on 16 Street and Fuller is home to our cultural center, SPAIN arts & culture
