The symposium ‘IN ACTION: the new social role of architects in Japan and Spain’, curated by Jorge Almazán (Keio University) will be held at the Embassy of Spain on December 1st, 2017.
A new consciousness is emerging among Japanese and Spanish architects. The burst of the bubble economy (1991), and last major Earthquakes (Kobe 1995, Tohoku 2011) have triggered in Japan the development of collaborative practices, shared spaces, community regeneration projects and participatory design methods. A similar change has happened in Spain since the burst of the real state bubble in 2008. How architects of two culturally distant countries are now converging into a new and shared set of design approaches, methods, and ethics will be discussed.
