Seamen Visa Requirements​


Only seamen who are nationals from a country which is required to have a valid visa to enter the Schengen Space need to apply for a transit visa and if they intend to: a) join a ship that is (or will be) in a Schengen port, b) land with the aim of join another ship that is (or will arrive) in a Schengen port, or c) land due to sickness, repatriation, holiday and so on.
The requirements to apply for a seamen visa are different depending on the flag of the ship.

The visa department of the Spanish Embassy in Singapore will only consider applications for all kind of visa IN PERSON AND BY APPOINTMENT, one appointment per applicant.
Due to the amount of applications received by this office, it is recommended that you plan your trip to the Schengen area with sufficient time to schedule for an appointment and to process your visa application.
This Embassy cannot do changes or reschedule of appointments.


Any residence/work/student visa needs the NATIONAL FORM; any tourist/business visa needs the SCHENGEN VISA FORM. Kindly note that the new investors and ‘property-visa’ are under: “Residence visas Law 14.2013”

1. ONE Schengen Visa application form: The application must be completed and signed.

2. ONE photograph (glued to the application): the photo must be recent (4,5cm x 3,5cm), clearly showing the face, the forehead hairline and ears on a white background.

3. Passport (Original and Photocopy of the identity pages). The passport must be valid for a minimum of three months from the date of completion of their stay in the Schengen territory, with at least two blank pages available to stamp the visa.

4. Singaporean IC: employment card/ S pass/ dependant pass/ work permit/ PR card (re-entry permit for PR should be given too). Original and Photocopy.

6. Letter in Spanish from the inviting Spanish Shipping Company where it must be stated all this information:

• Name and Surname of the Seaman

• Date of Birth

• Place of Birth

• Passport Number

• Date of Issue

• Date of Expiry

• Position of the Seaman on the ship

• Intended date of arrival in Spain

• Ship`s Name

• Ship`s Flag

• Airport of Entry in Spain

• Periodo of Stay of the Seamen on the Ship

• Seaport of Disembarkation

• Intended Date of end of Journey

• Seamen`s Itinerary in Spain

• Seamen`s Itinerary Returning to their Countries

• Address, phone number and email address of the Company Which Seaman is Working for.

The invitation letter must include the name of the person who will be in charge of the seaman on his arrival in Spain in order to transfer him to the ship, as well as the name of the person who will be in charge of his transfer to the ship when the seamen will be returning to his home country in the event that this takes place through Spanish territory.

7. Medical insurance policy / accident / travel with international coverage for the period of time spent in the Schengen territory for a minimum of € 30,000 or its equivalent in Singapore dollars. Your policy has to cover:
-Medical expenses
-Emergency and repatriation 
Not accepted for reimbursement or coverage policies below 100% of the costs (deductible). You can buy medical insurance / accident / travel over the Internet or your travel agent. (Original and Photocopy)

8. Financial guarantee. Your last 3 bank statements showing transactions. YOUR NAME HAS TO BE STATED IN THEM. (Original and Photocopy).

9. Financial guarantee. Your credit card last statement. YOUR NAME HAS TO BE STATED IN IT. (Original and Photocopy). If you have a saving account, do not hesitate to include it. If you have your final tax return, do not hesitate to include it too. 

- Short stay visa 1 to 90 days. A non-refundable fee is required to process the file. FEE: 97.80 SGD. CASH ONLY. EXACT CHANGE. 
- If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, you must apply at the Consulate/Embassy of the country that will be your main destination meaning the country where you will be staying most of the nights. If you intend to visit several Schengen countries but you will stay the same number of nights in each of them, you must apply at the Consulate of the country you will enter first.
- The Embassy has full authority to evaluate, deny and request more documents than those submitted by the applicant. The latter is hereby informed that submitting those documents requested DOES NOT guarantee automatic issuance of the visa. You can be requested for a personal interview to clarify some aspects of your application/travel.
- Processing Time:  10 working days. (urgent visa: 2 working days; fee: 114.80 SGD)
- Application upon APPOINTMENT ONLY: Monday to Thursday 9:30 to 12:00. 
- Collection: Monday to Friday 12 to 13 h.
