BIRTH REGISTRATION
In order to register the birth of a son/daughter in the Consular Civil Registry, the said birth must have taken place within the Ottawa consular jurisdiction, the person born must be under 21 years of age and one of his/her parents must have Spanish citizenship.
From the age of 18 on, this registration must be made personally by the applicant who must complete the Data Declaratory Form as “interesado/a” (person concerned) and present the following documentation at the Embassy:
Local birth certificate (Certified True Copy of Birth Registration, long form).
Parents’ family book, if applicable.
Certified True Copy of the parents’ marriage certificate, if applicable.
Certified True Copy of the birth certificate of the Civil Register of the Spanish Consulate where the parents’ birth is registered.
Birth certificate of the foreign parent.
Parents’ passports.

NOTE: All above-mentioned documents must be ORIGINAL.
MARRIAGE REGISTRATION
It is advisable that the Spanish spouse/s be registered in the Consular Registry before proceeding to register the marriage. Registration can be done provided the marriage took place within the Ottawa consular jurisdiction, by submitting the following documentation:
Local marriage certificate (Certified True Copy of Marriage Registration, long form).
An up-to-date Certified True Copy of the Spanish spouse’s birth.
Birth certificate of the foreign spouse.
Valid passports of both spouses.
National Identity Document of the Spanish spouse/s.
If one of the spouses is divorced:
Divorce certificate for the foreign spouse.
For the Spanish spouse, if the marriage is registered in the Spanish Civil Registry and the divorce took place abroad, the latter will not be valid unless is recognized in Spain through an Exequatur process, executed by a lawyer in Spain.
Sworn declaration of civil status prior to the marriage, available at the Consular Section.

NOTE: The above-mentioned documents must be ORIGINAL.
Once the marriage is registered, the applicants will be given a Family Register Book.
DEATH REGISTRATION
In order to register the death of a Spanish citizen, the event must have taken place within the Ottawa consular jurisdiction. The registration may be carried out by the spouse, children, relatives or friends, by submitting the following documentation at the Embassy:
Local death certificate (Certified Copy of Death Registration, long form).
Literal copy of birth certificate of the deceased.
Family register book of the deceased.
Spanish passport of the deceased.
