The Oslo Architecture Triennale has selected a team of Spanish architects to curate its 2016 edition

After Belonging Agency has presented a project that focuses on the relationship between immigration and urban development

A team of Spanish architects working under the name After Belonging Agency (ABA) will curate the most important architecture festival in Norway, the Oslo Architecture Triennale, in 2016, with their project “In Residence, On Residence, and the Ways We Stay in Transit”.

Made up of five Spanish architects based in New York, the ABA team has been unanimously selected by a jury of renowned Norwegian architects, among a host of 73 projects. The other three firms that made it to the last cut of the selection process where: Crimson Architectural Historians, Justin McGuirk and Dan Handel.

The exhibition will focus on the relationship between immigration and architecture, and particularly on how to manage urban transformations born from the increasing arrival and settlement of people in contemporary cities.

According to the selection committee, the proposal of the Spanish team is of great relevance for a city like Oslo, in which immigrant population growth is the fastest in Europe and that by 2040 expects at least 50% of its population to come from abroad. Similarly, the jury highlighted the opportunity this project offers the Triennale to become a platform for the development of new strategies of urban development that will take into account the demographic and sociological transformations of the cities of the future.
