There are no official Spanish cultural centers in Malaysia but the Embassy of Spain, along with the Aula Cervantes of Spain in Kuala Lumpur, organizes cultural activities throughout the year.
Teaching Spanish
Spanish was taught for the first time in 1972 at the University Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. Today there are 13 Malaysian universities that teach Spanish, 8 international schools, one Aula Cervantes in HELP CAT University in Kuala Lumpur, the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations, Uni-KL Malaysian Spanish Institute and there are several private schools that teach Spanish.
The Malaysian education system does not include foreign language courses for primary and secondary public schools. There are some Private Schools that teach foreign languages schools in primary and secondary education, Spanish is taught in 8 of them.
At the university level Spanish is taught in 13 universities in 8 states ; Johor, Kedah, Malaka, Perak, Penang, Sabah, Selangor and Kuala Terengganu addition to Kuala Lumpur.
In 2003 Aula Cervantes was inaugurated in Kuala Lumpur at the HELP University as a resource centre for Spanish and is one of two official centers where you can sit for the DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language) examination.
