Seminar on the access of women to education and their participation professional careers in Pakistan

In accordance with the priority Spain grants to gender issues in the field of Human Rights, the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad has held a Seminar on “Empowerment of Women in Pakistan” at its premises on October 27th, 2015, in which several Pakistani experts working in the fields of politics, public administration, business, sports and Human Rights have presented their views on the gender situation in Pakistan.

The Seminar was inaugurated by the remarks of H.E. the Ambassador of Spain, Mr. Carlos Morales, H.E. the Head of the European Union Delegation, Mr. Jean-Francois Cautain and the Country Representative of UN Women, Mr. Jamshed M. Kazi. The floor was then given to Pakistani experts to express the obstacles they face and are facing in the access to education and in their professional life.

After the presentations, a discussion took place in order to identify (below) the obstacles encountered by women in their access to education and in their professional careers in Pakistan as well as to lay out a set of measures in order to address obstacles.

This Seminar was linked to the High Level Review of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) and the Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security which, chaired by the Spanish Prime Minister, took place in UN Headquarters, New York, in the framework of the 15th anniversary of SCR 1325.
