An au pair student visa is a visa that allows for a collaborative NOT working relationship between the au pair and the family and is characterized by:
- Au pairs will live with the family
- The services will be complementary to the main purpose
- Au pairs will not receive a salary
- Age requirement: applicants must be between 17 & 30 years old

PLEASE NOTE that Australian citizens do not require a visa to study in Spain for under 90 days.

Visa processing may take up to one month.  Applicants must lodge their visa applications in person and collect their visas, if approved, also in person. Approved visas that are not collected within one month from the date of written notification of approval, will be withdrawn.

To lodge an application, please contact the Consular office at the Embassy of Spain by email at emb.canberra@maec.es to make an appointment.

Please note that during the examination of a visa application, some additional documents may be requested in order to determine that all requirements to obtain the visa are met.

You will be required to present original documents and a photocopy.  Originals will be returned after they are sighted at the Consular office.

For visas of over 180 days, if granted, the visa label is valid for 90 days so it must be presented at the Oficina de Extranjería (Immigration Office) or “Comisaría de Policía, Departamento de Extranjería” during the first month from the date of arrival in Spain to apply for your residency card which will replace your visa once in Spain.
