Student Visa
A student visa allows you to stay in Spain for over 90 days as student, language assistant, au pair, volunteer or un-paid intern.
Visa processing may take up to one month. Applicants must lodge their visa applications in person and collect their visas within the following two months after notification. Please make an appointment to lodge your application by writing an e-mail to:
Please notice that in addition to the documents stated below any other documentation may be requested. Original documents and copies are required. Applicants shall verify the original documents are returned at the end of the process.
1.National visa application form: the application forms must be filled in duplicate, signed and dated. 


2. Passport: passport or travel document with a minimum validity of the student’s intended stay in Spain.

3. Two recent passport size photos. White Background, 2x2in, one per application form, glued, not stapled. 
4. Documentation proving the purpose of the stay. Letter from the university/study centre in Australia stating the applicant’s current student status, with, at least, name and address of the study centre, a contact person, full personal student's details, name of the study, learning hours, beginning and ending dates.
Scholarship students shall provide a document stating full details of the scholarship: institution that is granting the scholarship, student's full name, its amount, duration, benefits and conditions.
Au pair students shall provide the agreement signed by the hosting family. They must be between 17 and 30 years old.
5. Planned travel itinerary. Proof of bookings is required. It is recommended not to pay for the flight tickets until the visa is granted.
6. Proof of accommodation. Booking in student accomodation, leasing contract or engagement letter, Spanish 'carta de invitación' issued by the Police, etc.
7. Proof of having international medical insurance with an insurance company authorised to operate in Spain with validity for the intended stay in Spain.
8. Proof of financial means. Bank statements showing transactions of the last three months previous to the date of the application.
Notarized declaration from parents or person assuming financial responsibility in case of dependent students, translated and legalized or apostilled, and certificate of birth or marriage, translated and legalized or apostilled.
9. Non-Australian citizens will have to provide evidence of their legal residence in Australia (E.g.: valid Australian residence visa).
10. Minors (persons under 18 years of age) must present birth certificate, translated and legalized or apostilled, and a notarized authorization to travel from parents or guardians, translated and legalized or apostilled.
For stays of over 180 days, student visa holders must apply for a student card within one month after arrival in Spain in the relevant Spanish oficina de extranjería or in the local police station depending on the place of residence.
Applicants for stays of over 180 days shall provide:
11. Police criminal record clearance:
- From the Australian authorities (Australian Federal Police) (name and fingerprints) 
- From the appropriate authorities of any other countries where the applicant has lived during the past five years. 

Police clearances must be translated and legalized or apostilled and cannot be older than three (3) months from the date of the application. 
12. Medical certificate: a statement signed by a doctor indicating that ‘the patient has been examined and found free of any contagious diseases according to the International Health Regulation 2005’.
