National visas

You will find here all the visas if you want to stay more than 90 days in Spain. You will be needing it unless you are an EU or EEE citizen.

 

You will be given a visa valid for only 90 days. In those 90 days you must enter Spain. Then contact the relevant public office in Spain -ask for it once you are there-. They will give you a residence permit to stay as long as you need

 

Look for the one that fits the reason of your stay in Spain and click. Be patient, there are many kinds of visas.

 

If you are less than 36 year old, you can directly apply for a working holiday visa whatever the reason of your stay. You don´t need then another visa.

In all cases you will be needing this form. It is a pdf document.  

 

 

You are going to study; as au pair; to do volunteer work; to do an internship; or to do research; or you have been named AUXILIAR DE CONVERSACIÓN by a Comunidad Autónoma. Then you need a STUDENT VISA

 (If you are auxiliar de conversación in a private institution, then you need an employee visa)

 

You are going to work as an employee, with or without your family. Then you need an EMPLOYEE VISA.( visado de trabajo por cuenta ajena).

 

You are going to work in Spain on your own, or to open your own business,  without a labour contract with an employer. You need a SELF-EMPLOYED VISA.

 

You want to live in Spain without working or to stay with a religious community.  Then you need a NON-LUCRATIVE VISA.

 

You want to live in Spain because YOU HAVE INVESTED MONEY; or because you are planning a START UP IN AN INNOVATIVE SECTOR. Go to

You want to work in Spain, but the organisation you are going to work with has told you that you don´t need a work permit. Then you need a VISA FOR ACTIVITIES EXEMPTED OF WORK PERMIT.

 

 

SEC1

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET A STUDENT VISA.
 
 
Requirements
IF YOU ARE LESS THAN 36 YEAR OLD AND YOU ARE CANADIAN, YOU CAN APPLY FOR A YOUTH HOLIDAY VISA AS AN ALTERNATIVE. CHECK AND CHOOSE WHICH VISA SUITS YOU BETTER. IF YOU CHOOSE YOUTH MOBILITY, YOU DO NOT NEED STUDENT VISA AND VICEVERSA.
IF YOU CHOOSE STUDENT VISA, YOU DO NOT NEED A NIE.
 
Once you have all the required documents with you –see below-, you must post by mail your application. You cannot fix an appointment in our web.
If the applicant travels with the family, each member of the family must present an independent visa application, the documents to be enclosed and a document proving the relationship (Marriage or birth certificate, as the case may be). All family applications can be sent in the same envelop.

 

 

Documents to be enclosed

ONLY AUXILIARES DE CONVERSACIÓN IN A COMUNIDAD AUTÓNOMA (ACCA) DO NOT NEED SOME OF THE DOCUMENTS BELOW. CHECK CAREFULLY.

 

Don´t forget the form, which you can find up in this page. Include a photograph, Canadian passport size and colour. In addition,  

 

1. Valid passport with a minimum validity of the entire period for which the visa is requested and delivered in a maximum of ten years before you apply.

2. If the applicant is not a Canadian citizen, he/she must provide documentation proving his/her residence status in Canada (permanent residence permit, working permit, study permit, etc.)

3. If the duration of the stay is over six months, medical certificate issued by a family doctor with the following text:

“This medical certificate confirms that Mr. / Mrs. [……..] does not suffer from any of the diseases that can have serious implications for public health in accordance with the provisions of the 2005 International Health Regulations”

4. If the duration of the stay is over six months, and you are an adult, negative criminal record issued by the RMCP. If in the last five years you have resided in another country, a criminal record from the authoritires of that country.  

5. A document proving the reason of your stay:

a)      Study: 
 
Proof of being admitted to an educational institution authorized in  Spain, on a full-time program, leading to a degree or certificate. If you are an AUXILIAR DE CONVERSACIÓN, acceptance letter of the Comunidad Autónoma in Spain.
 
 
b)      Research or training:
Proof of being admitted to an officially recognized institution in Spain for research or training activities.
c)      Internship:
 
Proof of being admitted to a public or private company or training center officially recognized in Spain and copy of the agreement signed with a public or private entity.
 
d)      Au pair
 
  
                   Proof of being admitted to an educational institution authorized in Spain, on a full-time program, leading to a degree or certificate;
 
                    And copy of the agreement signed with the family where you are going to reside as au pair for a maximum of one year. It should state that ,
 
                                  if you are going to perform domestic work, it should be a maximum of five hours per day;                                  
                                  that you will enjoy a free day per week. This day must be at least one Sunday per month;                         
                                The adress of the house, and that you are going to enjoy a certain independence;                                    
                                The money that you are going to receive as pocket money per month;
                                And the possibility for you or the family to terminate the agreement with a prior notice of two weeks.
          
                              e)     Volunteer work:

Copy of the agreement signed with the organization running the volunteer program and proof of liability insurance.
 

 

6. Overseas medical insurance coverage (minimum: 30.000€). IF YOU ARE AN ACCA, YOU DON´T NEED  MEDICAL INSURANCE.
 
7.   Proof of financial reliability. - Bank statements, scholarships, etc. A minimum amount of CAN $ 777 per month of stay is required. In case of au pairs, the pocket money can be included within the CAN $ 777. IF YOU ARE AN ACCA,  YOU DON´T NEED PROOF OF FINANCIAL RELIABILITY.

If your parents are to cover the costs, you must present a notarized letter signed by them indicating their consent and a copy of their bank statement for the last two months.
8. Proof of accommodation: sometimes the institutions where you are going to study, research or be ACCA include in their letter of admittance that they will provide you with accomodation. That is enough. Otherwise you need to prove that you have arranged a place to stay in Spain.  
Private housing must be accompanied by a letter of invitation issued at a police station in Spain. Your host will know how to obtain it.
 
9. In the case of a minor student, you must also submit an authorization of your parents or guardian/legal tutors signed in a notary stating when and where your son or daughter is going to stay and that you allow that.
 
10. You must pay a fee. Look for it in this page:         
 
  ONLY cash, money order or certified cheque payable to the Consulate General of Spain in Toronto will be accepted.
 
11.   A prepaid XPRESSPOST envelope if passport is to be sent to your home.

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET AN EMPLOYEE VISA
 
Before applying for this visa, your Spanish employer must obtain an authorisation of residence in the Oficina de Extranjería of the province where you are going to work. Without it, there is no point in applying.
 
Once you have all the required documents with you –see below-, you must post by mail your application. 
 
If the applicant travels with the family, each member of the family must present an independent visa application, They must also obtain the authorisation from the Oficina de Extranjería. The documents to be enclosed and a document proving the relationship (Marriage or birth certificate, as the case may be). All family applications can be sent in the same envelop.

This is the visa if you want to reside in Spain working by yourself, without signing a labour contract as employee.
 
If the applicant travels with the family, each member of the family must present an independent visa application, the documents to be enclosed and a document proving the relationship (Marriage or birth certificate, as the case may be). All family applications can be sent in the same envelop.

Negative criminal record (not applicable for minors), issued by the authorities of the country or countries where you have lived during the past five years, including Canada. They are issued by the the RMCP.

 

Properly endorsed title or accreditation that you hold the training and skills required to perform the job or economic activity, in case they are required.
 
 Evidence that you have enough economic means for investment or sufficient support by financial institutions or by others.
 
Project of business or activity to be carried out, including the proposed investment, expected profits and, depending on the case, work positions that might be created.
 
List of the authorizations or licences that are required to setting up, opening or functioning of the projected activity or for the professional practice stating the situation the procedures these are in, and including completed form copies of all the application made at the corresponding administrative bodies.
 
Estimate that the activity will produce the first year from the beginning sufficient economic resources to support at least the maintenance ad accommodation after all necessary costs to continue the activity have been deducted.

 WHAT YOU NEED TO GET A NON-LUCRATIVE VISA.

 

This is the visa if you want to reside in Spain without working nor carrying out an economic activity.  
 
Once you have all the required documents with you –see below-, you must post by mail your application. You cannot fix an appointment in our web.
 
If the applicant travels with the family, each member of the family must present an independent visa application, the documents  
to be enclosed and a document proving the relationship (Marriage or birth certificate, as the case may be). All family applications can be sent in the same envelop.
 
1.  The visa application form must be submitted on a duly completed , which can be found here. 
 
 
The application must include a recent full-face photograph, Canadian passport size, in color, on a light, plain and uniform background.
 
2. You also need a passport valid for at least six months and issued a maximum of ten years before you apply. Copy only the page which contains your data 
 
3. If the applicant is not a Canadian citizen, he/she must provide a proof of residence in Canada ( copy of your PR permit, working permit, study permit...)
 
4. A medical certificate issued by a family doctor with the following text:

“This medical certificate confirms that Mr. / Mrs. [……..] does not suffer from any of the diseases that can have serious implications for public health in accordance with the provisions of the 2005 International Health Regulations”.
 
5. Negative criminal record (not applicable for minors), issued by the authorities of the country or countries where you have lived during the past five years, including Canada. They are issued by the RMCP.
 

 
 
7. You must  prove that you have enough means to live in Spain whitout working for the wole period that you want to stay in Spain. You must justify CAN $ 3108 per month, and CAN $ 777 per month for every member of your family. 
 
8. A health insurance which covers you and your family en Spain.
 
9. The form of  tax 052, tasa 052, filled and signed. Find it here. Click where it says “tasa 052”:
