N.I.E. / Certificates of Non Residence in Spain (for foreigners)
 
 
Applicants have to reside in our jurisdiction (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania or Delaware) in order to apply for the NIE or the Certificate of Non Residence in Spain. This is an in-person procedure only.
 
Appointment: you need and APPOINTMENT in order to apply for the Foreign Identification Number or the Certificate of Non Residence in Spain.​
 

 
Previous information about the NIE: if you are going to live in Spain for more than six months, you will get the NIE with your Resident/Student Card (TIE), for which you must apply upon arrival. 
If you need a NIE because you have business or economic interests in Spain and you are not travelling to Spain or your stay in Spain is shorter than six months, you can apply for a NIE in Spain or at this office.
 
Previous information about the Certificate of Non Residence: if you are not going to Spain and may need a certificate of Non Residence in Spain (bank purposes, etc.), you can apply for this Certificate in Spain or at this office.
 
If the applicant cannot submit the form personally at this Consulate, the process can be completed by a representative with a Power of Attorney (original document). This representative will sign the EX15 and 790 forms at the Consulate instead of the applicant and must complete all the representative's personal details required in the second part of the EX15 form.
 
Documents for the NIE / Certificate of Non Residence in Spain:
1.- Applicant's passport*, original and one copy. The copy will be authenticated and annexed to the application with no additional charge.
*If the person applying for the NIE or Certificate of Non Residence in Spain also held the Spanish citizenship, they must also provide a copy of the "Naturalization Certificate".
This form should be filled out from the computer, indicating the address in the US in the "Domicilio de residencia". Please note that you will not be able to save your changes, please print it out immediately after filled. It must be signed at this office, in the presence the official in charge.

4.- Consular Fees: see here for updated fees. The fee has to be paid by USPS money order.
