THE SPANISH COMPANY ACCIONA WILL TAKE PART IN THE MELBOURNE MEGAPROJECT EAST-WEST LINK
The consortium formed by Australian lend lease, French Bouygues and Spanish Acciona has been awarded the largest public works project in Australian history
9/14/2014
The Spanish company ACCIONA, one of the world leaders in development and management of infrastructures, in partnership with the French company Bouygues and the Australian company Lend Lease (at a third each), has been awarded the construction the East-West Link, of a highway/tunnel in Melbourne, one of the most important works in civil engineering worldwide.

With an estimated budget for the first stage of the East-West link – a 4 kilometre long, three lane wide each way city tunnel – of AUD8 billion (approx. €5.6 billion at the current exchange rate), but a global budget between AUD15 billion and AUD17 billion, it is, in fact, the largest infrastructure project in the history of Australia and one of the largest international public works ever.

It will significantly ameliorate traffic and congestion and reduce time and petrol consumption in the capital city of Victoria. The number of vehicles to circulate through the tunnel is roughly estimated to be 100.000 daily.

The contract is due to be signed next October. The first stage of the project is due to be completed between 2019 and 2020.
