NOTICE
A. This consulate only serves Spanish tourists or residents, temporarily or permanently based in Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal, as well as Comoros, Madagascar and Mauritius.
Temporary or permanent residents or Spanish tourists in the rest of the provinces of South Africa, Free Stae, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Northwest, and in the Kingdom of Lesotho, should go to the consular section of the Spanish Embassy in Pretoria.
Residents or tourists in Swaziland should go to the Spanish Embassy in Mozambique.
B. The information provided on this page is to facilitate the applicant, but is not mandatory. It does not alter or replace the content of the current regulations, which will be applicable in any case. It should not be used as a primary resource.
C. The Spanish Public Administrations provide a great variety of services online. Consult your case on the official WEB pages of the Spanish ministries and administrations; for the general electronic portal click here.
Documents addressed to public administrations may be submitted at any of the organisations, or other public entities, such as public universities; that is to say, documents addressed to public administrations can be presented at this office, and, documents addressed to this Consulate General can be presented at the registries of such administrations, according to established guidelines.
D. Consular services are provided once a fee has been paid; see Fees under the Consular Services tab. The consulate cannot start the formalities without prior payment of this cash fee. Please note, however, that the Civil Registry is free.
The consular fees must be paid in cash directly at the consulate when requesting a procedure.
For the procedures that require the payment of the fee by international bank transfer (Comoros, Madagascar and Mauritius), the procedure is as follows:
- The documentation is sent to this consulate, indicating the procedure requested and the contact details.
- After a preliminary review, the interested party will be informed, preferably by email, of the bank details and the exact amount to be entered in the local currency of South Africa (rand / ZAR). All bank charges for an international transfer are at the expense of the interested party.
- Once the exact amount has been received, the request will be processed.
No request will be processed until the exact amount has been received in the bank account that has been indicated.
E. Appointments are required for the following procedures: Appling for visas; notary acts; and acts of option, conservation and recovery of Spanish nationality.
No appointments are required for other procedures or for collection of documents.
Visa appointments are processed online only. See the Visas section of this webpage. Other appointments are arranged by email.
F. Procedures regarding minors must be made by their legal representatives or a person who has parental authority over them, so that their presence at the consulate is not necessary, unless specifically indicated.
G. The consulate may request translation of the documents submitted into Spanish. The consulate may request additional documents to those indicated in the informative sections on procedures.
To be valid in Spain, all public documents from South Africa and Mauritius have to have the Hague Apostille. Public documents from Madagascar and Comoros must be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country and by this consulate.
